Share Your Voice. Write A Blog

Every member of the Male Domestic Abuse Alliance has a unique perspective, experience, or insight that could help others. Whether you are a survivor, practitioner, researcher, advocate, policymaker, or supporter, your voice matters.

You do not need to be a professional writer. In fact, some of the most engaging blogs are written by people who simply want to share a story, reflect on an issue, highlight good practice, or start an important conversation.

By contributing a blog, you can:

  • Share your experiences and lessons learned
  • Highlight challenges and opportunities in your field
  • Promote innovative ideas and approaches
  • Discuss research, policy, or practice developments
  • Inspire others and spark meaningful discussion
  • Help shape the future direction of support for male victims and survivors

Blogs can be short or long, formal or conversational. The most important thing is that they are authentic, informative, and relevant.

The MDAA Blog is a platform for member voices. We encourage contributions from across the UK and around the world, helping to bring together diverse perspectives and experiences that can drive positive change.

Have something to say? We'd love to hear from you. Your blog could inform, challenge, inspire, and help improve outcomes for male victims and survivors of domestic abuse.

Don't worry if you have never written a blog before.  We can help shape, edit, format, proof-read.

Need some tips?

Take a look at our blog writing tips below, then get started!

Write about what you know

Write how you speak and include a personal perspective

Start with a strong hook and keep it focussed

Focus on topics you are passionate about or have experience of. This could be:

  • Professional practice
  • Research findings
  • Survivor experiences and reflections
  • Policy issues
  • Awareness campaigns
  • Service development
  • Lessons learned from your work

Start with a strong hook and keep it focussed

Your first few sentences should grab the reader's attention. Ask a question, share a surprising fact, or highlight why the topic matters.

Try to stick to one main topic or message. A clear, focused blog is easier to write and easier to read.

Write how you speak and include a personal perspective

Avoid overly academic or technical language where possible. Imagine you are explaining your ideas to a colleague over a coffee.

Readers connect with people. Don't be afraid to explain why the topic matters to you or what experiences have shaped your views.

Use short paragraphs

Don't chase perfection

Large blocks of text can be intimidating. Keep paragraphs short and leave plenty of white space.

Make it relevant

Don't chase perfection

Ask yourself:

  • Why does this matter?
  • Who does it affect?
  • What can readers learn from it?

Your first draft doesn't need to be perfect. Get your ideas down first, then edit and refine them later.
